In the Best Interest of the Child: The 2014 Guardian ad Litem Training and Update

OnDemand

The S.C. Bar CLE Division is pleased to present our annual children's issues and Guardian ad Litem training seminar.  The 2014 edition of "In the Best Interest of the Child" tracks a GAL case in its entirety with an emphasis on solving problems that guardians and attorneys are seeing.

Course Planner Jenny R. Stevens has designed  a powerful program that will begin with a presentation by Family Court judges Vicki Snelgrove and Kelly Pope-Black on what Guardians need to know as they take on a case.  The faculty will shift its focus to best practices for dealing with culturally diverse cases, keys to handling parental interviews, tackling thorny financial issues, and situations where the Guardian is faced with allegations of child abuse or neglect.  The morning will conclude with an important update on the Guardian's role in adoption cases.

The afternoon will concentrate on the psychological read flags of custody cases, parental alienation, and examination of ethics and professionalism during the investigation process.

The program will close with three discussions:  a comprehensive look at an effective Guardian Report, a tutorial on creating a child-centered Parenting Plan and an update on custody and visitation case law.

This seminar is a great fit for current Guardians ad Litem in private custody cases or those in need of greater insight to contemporary guardian practice!
